Tips for Fighting Cold & Flu Naturally

With the changes in season, it reminds me that flu season is right around the corner. We have a few tried and true methods that help our family stay healthy during this time. About every other year, we get hit with a flu bug, but generally our kids only get small colds. We try to get enough rest and eat healthy, but throwing in a few other natural remedies seems to really boost our immune systems.

Did you know that getting adjusted can boost your immune system? We take our children to get adjusted at least once a month.

Elderberry syrup

(Forgive the old picture - I recently changed the blog name ;))

Elderberry syrup is an herb known to boost immune function. We buy ours locally from a friend who makes it. Elderberry can lessen the symptoms of a cold or flu bug. Anthocyanin is an antioxidant which helps immune function and can help you fight off that flu bug faster. There's lots of recipes on the internet to make your own syrup. If you're local, I can put you in contact with the person we buy ours from! You can also buy it on Amazon or on a lot of other websites, but it is much less expensive in the long term to make your own.

Essential oils

Some of the oils and blends I recommend for fighting off cold and flu bugs would include Germ Fighter Synergy & Immune Aid Synergy from Plant Therapy. I like to use these blends behind our ears, or in a roll on on the spine. You can also diffuse essential oils in the air. You can dilute 1 drop of eucalyptus, peppermint, and lavender in a carrier oil to bring down a fever. You can add 10 drops of Germ Fighter to 8 oz of witch hazel or purified water to disinfect the air or surfaces per the Plant Therapy blog.

These are just a few ways you can naturally fight cold and flu season. What natural remedies do you use?

{Disclaimer: I am featuring products in this post that I purchased with my own money. There are also affiliate links which I earn a small commission from that helps support my blog. Also, while I am sharing natural remedies we use, I am not a doctor, and I am not offering you medical advice.}
