July Children’s Reading List

Reading is a huge part of our homeschool days. Although
we’re on summer break, we still read multiple times a week. It’s so important
to read to your children. It’s a great way to create memories, de-stress, and
enjoy one-on-time time with your children.
Starting off this month, one of our favorites has been
Time’s Book of Why series. There are four titles in this series that include
Book of Why – Animal Kingdom, Book of Why – Really Cool People & Places, Book of Why – AmazingSports & Science, Book of Why – Stellar Space. This is a really great
series starting at about age eight, but my 7-year-old has enjoyed all of the
titles. His favorite is Amazing Sports & Science. Some of the most
interesting things he’s learned how included: “why do leaves change color?”
“Why is grass green?” Why aren’t all bacteria bad for you?” These are a lot of
great questions that kids want answered. There’s definitely something in this
series for everyone. There are many interesting facts and bright pictures in
these books that make this series a great addition to any library.

If you have younger kids, Time for Kids also has a new title
out X Why

Z Animals. Avery is our
3-year-old and he grabbed this book out of my hands as it came in the mail.
This nice hardcover book is thick and sturdy, so it reads very well. It talks
about all sorts of animal species, from camels, to snakes, and sea animals. The
bright pictures made it great for the kids to see what these animals looked
like. We recognized several animals that live at our local zoo.

The Guess Who Series – including Guess Who Zoo, Guess Who Farm, and Guess Who Neighborhood? We’ve had these books for a while. I’ve
posted a review of Guess Who Zoo and the CD that goes with the book.
Unfortunately, I never got around to reviewing the other two titles. My
4-year-old, Cheyenne particularly enjoys these books and asks to read them
quite often. As a parent, my favorite part of these books are that there are
more “grown up” words in these posts. The riddles in these books by Howard
Eisenberg leave kids guessing. And these riddles are simple enough, because
Cheyenne guesses the correct answer almost every time.
