#MotherhoodMonday: Mindfulness & Living in the Moment

How do you find your Motherhood Mindfulness?
Motherhood Mindfulness puts in mind that part of the day when I’m in the thick of it homeschooling kids, nursing a baby, and whatever else I’m multitasking at the same time. On particularly stressful days, I start counting down the minutes until bedtime. While I try to give myself grace through out the day and realize that it’s normal to get stressed out, I don’t want to wish away these precious moments with my children. 
It’s probably taken until this last year for me to really start appreciating the time I have with my kids while they are little. My oldest will turn nine in the spring and it’s incredible to me how quickly time has gone by. When reality hits you in the face, it’s like a big ole brick wall! 
I would say that for me to accept where we are in life, I’ve done a few things. Firstly, I’ve had to lower my standards of what I think is a clean house. With five kids, there’s always a mess around here. I don’t get to be OCD about things right now. I’ve concluded that as long as things are fairly picked up and running smoothly, that we will all survive.
Making the kids a priority is number one. Our children are each coming to us with five different stages, personalities, and tons of ideas! I have to try to meet each child with where they are at academically, where they may be struggling emotionally, and where they can use some encouragement. They are always changing and keeping me on my toes.
Lastly, I’ve come to realize that I really need alone time. I really like to decompress by either reading, getting online, or watching TV. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized crowds can be overwhelming for me. I’m not really a “go out on the town” kind of gal. I can sort of find my center by just being alone and doing something mindless.
Finally, I try to embrace the joyful moments in each day. Children are a precious blessing. They make me laugh. Here is one of my favorite moments from over the weekend with my two youngest, Hallie (almost 3), and Ellia (6 months).
