National Seafood Month: Tips for Eating Seafood Twice a Week

The weather is colder and the days are shorter. The winter months aren’t far off any more. For most of the country, that means we will be spending quite a bit of time indoors. A good portion of Americans suffer from depression during this time of year. But did you know there are ways that may help alleviate the symptoms of depression? By getting enough omega-3 fats in your diet, it may help depression sufferers.

Fresh Baby, National Strategic Partner with the USDA, has put together a printable tip list on eating seafood twice a week. Seafood is high in important nutrients like the aforementioned omega-3 fats. Children can also benefit from having seafood in their diet aligned with appropriate serving size and age. Adults should eat at least eight ounces a week.

Personally, I am trying really hard to do whatever I can to ward off depression this winter. I have been dealing with postpartum depression and anxiety after having my baby in June, so having a healthy and balanced diet is extremely important.

There are important things to consider when eating seafood. Avoiding mercury is very important, so be sure to do your research. This is especially important in infants, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women. The printable tip list has some suggestions for safely including seafood in your diet.
