Five Summer Boredom Busters for Kids

Summer is in full swing here and we are definitely making the best of it while it’s here. Like any parent, I get tired of hearing “I’m bored!” I want my kids to enjoy the warmer weather that can be so limited here in the Midwest. Here are some of our favorite summer past times that I hope your family may be able to incorporate as well!

Library trips

Our local library does a summer reading program that we love to participate in. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know this! Not only does it encourage reading, but they holdseveral free events for all ages. Even if your library doesn’t offer this, visiting the library is always fun & free!

Wet sponge fight

Forget the mess of water balloons and throw wet sponges at each other
instead! It doesn’t create any trash & is much more eco-friendly.

Family Baking Challenge

I love teaching my kids life skills. We’ve held a few baking challenges this summer where the kids are responsible for following a simple recipe from start to finish. And this includes clean up! You can add different incentives to it make it more challenging for older kids.

Outdoor Movie Night

We recently attended a birthday party where our friends showed a movie outside. The kids laid on blankets and enjoyed S’mores!
Ellia enjoyed the outdoor movie & S’Mores!

Not a Box Building Party”

¬†Even in the summer, we can get bad weather. It can get too hot or rainy to go outside, but this is an activity that could be done outdoors too. We actually did this activity at our local library & I thought it’d be fun to do at home as well.
Using any size box, let kids make a creation! This is a great way to let their imaginations run wild. Our library had scissors, colored duct tape, pipe cleaners, hot glue guns, and any other craft supplies you could think of on hand!
Our kids made an alien spider cave, house, couch and TV, bird, and an airplane! Here’s a couple of photos below.

My kiddos and I like to make crafts, especially during the summer. We are working on a paper plate alphabet series right now.
