September Children’s Book List

Every month I feature some of our current favorite books. Some of these books we’ve received to review and some we’ve purchased ourselves. I hope you find something you like on our list. Reading is such a wonderful activity for our family.

This month’s reading list is up a little late and a little shorter than usually because we just finished moving at the end of August. But I still wanted to share a few of the books we’ve had time to read in the craziness!
Little Elliot, Big City by Mike Curato
Avery, who just turned four, took quite the love to this book. Little Elliot is a book dedicated to anyone who feels unnoticed. As soon as it arrived in the mail, he wanted me to read it. Little Elliot is a pastel polka dotted elephant living in Manhattan. This cute picture book follows this tiny elephant around the big city– going unnoticed in a train car and as he’s passed up at the bakery counter when he tries to buy a cupcake. I don’t want to spoil the ending for you, but let’s just say Little Elliot finds friendship in one of the least likely places.
The Incredible Plate Tectonics Comic is a great way to get kids interested in earth science. My 7-year-old was asking about earthquakes at the time I was offered a review copy of this comic book, so we were delighted to check it out. The graphics were so brightly illustrated and definitely caught his attention. Kids can learn about the scientific theory of plate tectonics, why the earth shakes, and more fun facts about our earth. Some of the vocabulary admittedly was advanced for my 2nd grader, but we still had fun looking learning and researching what he didn’t understand.
These aren’t traditional reading books, but we received these poster books a while back and I wanted to be sure to mention them this month. Cheyenne is our 5-year-old and she loves anything Disney Princess. In fact, she is convinced she has a princess bedroom. These books feature over 100 posters, nine of which are super size. I love that there is so much variety in these posters, so she can change up her decor. We were able to pick out new ones for her bedroom in the new house without having to run to the store to buy new posters. These poster books would make a great birthday present for the little girl in your life!
