The Guess Who Zoo {Children’s Book Review Part 1 of 3}

I’m really excited to share the Guess Who books we received to read together. Mr. Howard Eisenberg is the veteran author behind these fun and lively children’s books. I want to share each book with you in this post, because they are all really well-written and entertained my kids. I really feel in a way these books are written in an old fashioned way and I really enjoy that. You don’t find a lot of kids books with more complicated words in them. Matthew is a struggling reader, so building his vocabulary is so important. I don’t feel like we need to dumb kids down with overly simple words.
I love Mr. Eisenberg’s story behind his riddles. He actually never meant for these to be published in books. These riddles were originally penned to entertain his grandchildren while traveling with his wife, Arlene in a 1989 What To Expect book tour in Australia and New Zealand. I’m certainly glad he decided to write these books, because they are a joy in our family.

This book also came with a CD that we play in the van. Notice how children’s music is a trend in our driving? I grow so weary of the kids fighting, so bringing music along is a great way to curb that. The CD has the riddles recorded to songs. Even Baby Hallie was bobbing her head to the music and Cheyenne found that very amusing. Matthew also had a good time guessing in the van and it kept his busy little mind occupied. Avery usually sleeps on car rides, but he absolutely enjoys the books at home. He’s very excited to see all of these animals at the zoo next month!
We all had a lot of fun reading the poems in this book that allows children to guess what the animals are. To my surprise, they figured out the riddle each time! As you can see from the cover photo above, this book features bring, colorful pictures too. I have absolutely no complains about this book.

Mr. Eisenberg has two other books out, “Guess Who Farm” and “Guess Who Neighborhood”. Keep an eye out for our next review!

“Guess Who Farm” is available for purchase directly from, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.

    Riddle books are great for kids. They have so much fun trying to figure out the riddles that they forget that they are "reading" for those that do not enjoy reading as much as others.

    The Guess Who Zoo sounds really neat. I love fun riddles and the story behind them, about them not being meant for his books but were created as a way to entertain his grandchildren, is really interesting. The art on the cover of the book is great, too. Very cute.
