Some women prefer to avoid pain medications during childbirth. I’ve had all five of my children with no pain medication, so here are some of my suggestions from my own experience, birth workers, or other experienced mothers.
Consider hiring a doula. Doulas a trained to support women in childbirth in various ways. They can help you find more comfortable labor positions, offer massage, or other pain relief methods.
Once you are in labor, ask your birth team to not encourage pain medication. This way you will remain in a positive and self-confident mindset.
Research pain relief methods. There are many pain relief methods that don’t involve medication such as massage, water, meditation, essential oils, listening to music, or even laughter. Bouncing on a birthing ball can often help move things along.
